What's So Special about MPEG-7?

by John Honovich, IP Video Market Info posted on April 14, 2008 About John Contact John

Though Eptascape has generated significant press for its MPEG-7 analytics, it's unclear to me why it's special or different than the other dozen companies offering analytics.

Specifically, does MPEG-7 make it better at alerting? That is, are there less false alerts and more valid alerts? Does MPEG-7 make it cheaper?

And how does Eptascape's MPEG-7 relate to ObjectVideo's XML standard?

Today, there are just two many analytic vendors are the marketplace with not enough clarity on what truly makes them different. This seems similar to the state of the marketplace a few years ago where there were dozens of DVRs and it was hard to tell them apart. Can anyone help clarify this?
